Real Madrid have reportedly accepted a whopping £48m bid from Arsenal for forward Karim Benzema.

Manager Arsene Wenger is on the lookout for an extra striker before the close of the transfer window as his Gunners seeks to win their first Premier League title since 2004.

The 27-year-old, who has 78 international caps for France, scored 22 goals in 46 appearances in all competitions for the La Liga giants last season.

Benzema has been linked with a move ever since leaving Ligue 1 outfit Lyon for the Bernabeu back in 2009, where he has since gone onto score over 134 goals for Madrid.

Arsenal boss Wenger, whose side lost 2-0 to West Ham United on the opening day of the new season, believes he just needs that extra something special upfront this season, alongside the likes of Olivier Giroud and Alexis Sanchez, if the Gunners are to mount a serious title challenge this term.
