Arsenal and Chelsea target Kostas Manolas is set to be handed an improved contract by AS Roma this summer in order to try and fend off his potential suitors, according to Gianluca Di Marzio (via Football FanCast).

The Premier League duo, who finished second and tenth in the English top-flight standings last term, have been continually linked with a move for the Greece international defender ahead of the forthcoming 2016/17 campaign.

The 25-year-old, who has 23 international caps for his country, scored two goals and provided three assists in 45 appearances in all competitions for the Serie A outfit last season.

Manolas, who joined Roma from Greek outfit Olympiacos back in August 2014 following his reported €15m switch, is understood to be valued at £38m nowadays.

The report suggests that the Greek star will be handed a new deal to stay at the Stadio Olimpico beyond the summer transfer window.

His new contract will match the wage demands Manolas made earlier in the summer as Roma bid to keep hold of their prized asset.
