Arsenal have reportedly been told by Valencia that centre-back target Shkodran Mustafi will cost them £21 million this summer, according to the Daily Star.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is looking to strengthen his defence following the news that Per Mertesacker could be out for several months with a knee injury, and despite already bringing in Rob Holding from Bolton for £2 million earlier this month, he is now searching for a more experienced centre-half.

That has led him to take a look at 24-year-old Mustafi, who is understood to be available for £21 million according to Valencia news outlet, Deportes COPE, despite having a release clause that is worth around double that fee.

The Germany international, who appeared for his country at the 2016 European Championship finals, scoring in the 2-0 win over Ukraine in the group stages, has made 78 appearances in all competitions for Valencia since joining them from Sampdoria in 2014, scoring six goals.
