West Ham are still on the trail of Dries Mertens.

According to a report in The Sun, Slaven Bilic is keen on bringing the Napoli striker to the London Stadium despite reports of competition from Chelsea and Manchester United for the Belgian internationalist.

Mertens has scored a highly impressive 25 goals in Serie A this season and has so far refused to sign a new contract with his current deal running until June 2018.

D-Day is rapidly approaching for Napoli over the player with the Italian side well aware of interest from the Premier League.

Mertens can play in any of the forward positions where his pace and eye for goal are exactly what Slaven Bilic is looking for.

West Ham would almost certainly be able to offer the 30-year-old regular first team football but after four years at Napoli missing out on European football would be a big blow.

After their home season ended with a disastrous 4-0 defeat from Liverpool the pressure is on Bilic to deliver far better results next season with the arrival of players with Mertens quality essential to start delivering on expectations at the London Stadium.
