A number of Championship clubs are reportedly in the running to sign Newcastle United forward Yoan Gouffran.

It is understood that Derby County, Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough are all interested in the Premier League winger, who played the full 90 minutes in the Magpies’ 4-1 win over Northampton Town in the League Cup on Tuesday night.

The 29-year-old, who arrived at St James’ Park from Bordeaux two years ago, scored twice in 33 appearances in all competitions for Newcastle last season.

However; following the appointment of new head coach Steve McClaren earlier this summer, Gouffran is deemed surplus to requirement at St James’ and is set to leave the club before the close of the transfer window on September 1.

It is understood that Newcastle are willing to let the France forward leave the club on a permanent or temporary basis within the forthcoming days.
