Barnsley thrashed Rotherham United in the South Yorkshire derby 4-0 as the Tykes won their third Championship home match in a row.

Centre-back Marc Roberts put the hosts ahead, before Adam Hammill’s wonderful run and strike doubled their lead. Late efforts from Tom Bradshaw and Ryan Kent made it a day to remember for Paul Heckingbottom’s side.

Huddersfield Town have gone two points clear at top of the table as they beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0. Rajiv van La Parra was a constant threat for the Terriers and the forward made the breakthrough when he tucked in the re-bound after Nahki Wells’ initial effort hit the post.

Fulham dramatically sealed three points away to Blackburn Rovers with a stoppage-time winner from Tom Cairney’s left-footed drive against his former club that saw them win 1-0. The hosts remain bottom of the table with just one point from five matches.

Birmingham City comfortably dispatched of Norwich City 3-0, as they won for the first time at home since March. Clayton Donaldson was the star of the show as he netted a brace along with David Davis’ header, as the Blues climb up to tenth.

Bristol City completed a marvellous comeback to reap further misery on Aston Villa, as they won 3-1. Jack Grealish had given the visitors the lead inside the first five minutes from Leandro Bacuna’s cross.

On-loan Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham levelled after half-time, before setting up Joe Bryan who delightfully curled the ball into the bottom corner, before Lee Tomlin’s excellent 20-yard free-kick rounded off the scoring.

Nottingham Forest made it three home victories in as many league games this season as they defeated Leeds United 3-1. Pajtim Kasami and Damien Perquis both netted their first strikes for their new club as the hosts raced into a 2-0 lead.

Kalvin Phillips’ speculative free-kick pulled one back for Garry Monk’s team, but Oliver Burke’s fine solo run and finish, saw the highly-rated player score on his last appearance for Forest, before his reported £13m transfer to RB Leipzig.

Reading narrowly won 1-0 at Cardiff City after an 89th minute strike from Yann Kermorgant, in a match that provided very few chances for both sides. Kermorgant was the ‘fox in the box’ as he picked up a loose ball before volleying home to move Jaap Stam’s Royals up to 15th.

Newcastle United overcame fellow promotion favourites Brighton and Hove Albion, as they won 2-0, to end the Seagulls’ unbeaten start to the season. It was a case of two free-kicks that sealed the three points for the Magpies.

Captain Jamaal Lascelles headed home from Matt Ritchie’s wonderful set-piece deliver in the first-half. Jonjo Shelvey doubled the hosts’ lead with a superb free-kick of his own in the second period, which flew into the top right corner.

Burton Albion beat neighbours Derby County 1-0 in the first-ever competitive match between the two sides. Jackson Irvine was the hero for the Brewers, when he got on the end of Lucas Atkins’ wonderful cross.

Queens Park Rangers ended their two match losing streak with a 1-0 victory at Wigan Athletic. Nedum Onuoha’s strike proved the difference between the sides in what was a highly contested game. The defender was on hand to power the ball into the Latics’ net after Jake Bidwell’s effort was only half cleared.

Ipswich Town proved that they are still a threat in front of goal, despite selling Daryl Murphy to Newcastle, as they won 1-0 at home to Preston North End. Summer signing Grant Ward grabbed his fourth goal of the campaign, when he found the bottom corner from 15-yards out.

And finally, Sheffield Wednesday were held to a 1-1 draw at Brentford, in a match that saw both sides finish the fixture with ten men.

Lasse Vibe had put the Bees ahead, before later seeing red for a second bookable offence, after David Jones had been dismissed for the Owls. But the drama was not over, as Sam Hutchinson equalised in the 93rd minute to earn a point for the visitors.
