Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has reportedly told the club’s hierarchy that he needs five more signings this summer if they are to compete for trophies next season, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Italian told Blues owner Roman Abramovich during a two-hour meeting that without a handful of new additions, he fears that the west London outfit will have no chance of winning the 2016/17 Premier League title.

The talks followed the disappointing 2-0 pre-season defeat to Rapid Vienna last Saturday, which was Conte’s first look at some of his squad in match action, and it appears as though the 46-year-old was less than impressed with the performance of some of his players.

Conte is desperate to avoid a repeat of last term’s disastrous 10th-placed finish in the top-flight, and believes his new club must match the spending power of Manchester United and Manchester City if they are to compete, despite already shelling out more than £60 million on Michy Batshuayi and N’Golo Kante.
