Chelsea are reportedly asking for £50m in order to sell Spain international striker Diego Costa this summer, according to The Sun.

The defending Premier League champions, who shockingly lost 3-2 at home to Burnley last weekend in their 2017-18 top-flight opener, are looking to offload the forward after deeming his surplus to requirements this campaign.

The 28-year-old, who has 16 international caps for his country, despite being born in Brazil, scored 22 goals and provided eight assists in 42 appearances in all competitions for The Blues last season.

Costa, who arrived at Stamford Bridge back in July 2014 following his reported £32m switch from Atletico Madrid, has netted 58 times in 120 games overall for Chelsea, winning two league titles and the League Cup.

However, the Spaniard is currently in his family home in Brazil after receiving a text from Blues boss Antonio Conte earlier this summer stating that he does not feature in the Italian’s plans this term.

Costa wishes to return to La Liga with former club Atletico, but they are understood to only be offering £30m for his services – £20m below Chelsea’s valuation.
