Serie A side Atalanta have rejected a £15m offer from Everton for midfielder Franck Kessie according to reports from the Guardian.

The Ivory Coast international, who has been a longstanding target for Premier League leaders Chelsea, has made 17 appearances this season bagging seven goals.

The defensive midfielder, who has been compared to his compatriot and Manchester City legend Yaya Toure, has been valued at around £34m by the Italian side.

Atalanta are reportedly desperate to hold on to their man until the end of the season at least, which may suit Antonio Conte’s side, who are happy to wait until the summer to secure a deal.

Toffees boss Ronald Koeman, who has the financial backing of new owner Farhad Moshiri, is supposedly looking for five new additions in the January window, with Manchester United’s Morgan Schneiderlin also seemingly close to a reunion with his former manager.

The 20-year-old is currently on international duty with the Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations.
