Chelsea have submitted a final take it or leave it offer to Napoli for top defensive target, Kalidou Koulibaly, according to the Telegraph, as Antonio Conte looks to bring his chase for a central defender to a close before the deadline gets any nearer.

The 25-year-old has been the subject of interest from South London all summer, with the Blues failing in numerous approaches, as Napoli hold firm to keep their man.

Conte’s latest offer is reportedly in the region of £40m, a fee which will go no higher as the powers that be at Stamford Bridge look for a resolution to their defensive issues.

The Italian boss is reportedly considering a move for Torino centre-half, and Napoli target, Nikola Maksimovic as an alternative to Koulibaly.

The 24-year-old has refused to train with his current side in order to attempt to force through a move away from the club, and has been compared to his fellow Serb, Nemanja Vidic.
