Chelsea have reportedly submitted a £42m bid to sign Uruguay international striker Edinson Cavani this summer, according to Le 10 Sport (via the Metro).

The Premier League side, who could only finish tenth in the English top-flight standings last term after a disastrous defence of their 2014/15 title, have suddenly emerged as potential suitors for the Paris Saint-Germain striker.

The 29-year-old, who has 80 international caps for his country, scored 25 goals and provided seven assists in 52 appearances in all competitions for the runaway Ligue 1 champions last season.

Cavani, who arrived in the French capital back in July 2013 following his €64m switch from Serie A outfit Napoli, is understood to be willing to leave the Parc des Princes.

The reports suggest that new Blues boss Antonio Conte has launched a £42m bid for the Uruguayan, despite the forward set to become PSG’s number one striker during the 2016/17 campaign following Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s departure earlier this summer.

However, they also suggest that the Ligue 1 giants could demand £67m for Cavani’s services.
