Borussia Monchengladbach are reportedly hopeful of extending the loan spell of Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen beyond the end of the season, according to the Evening Standard.

The Bundesliga outfit, who currently sit tenth in the German top-flight having won three of their opening eight league fixtures, will try to convince the Premier League club to allow the centre-half to stay at Borussia-Park beyond the current 2016/17 campaign.

The 20-year-old, who has 10 international caps for Denmark, has made 11 appearances in all competitions for Monchengladbach so far this season, recording two clean sheets.

Christensen, who has spent the past two seasons on loan at the German side, is also understood to be attracting interest from Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich and La Liga champions FC Barcelona due to his impressive performances for Monchengladbach.

The club’s sporting director, Max Eberl, said, “Our pledge is that Andreas feels comfortable with us and always reaches his goals.

“If Chelsea cannot offer him that, we might have a chance to have him with us even longer.”
