Manchester United are reportedly closing in on the signing of Serbia international star Nemanja Matic, according to ESPN FC.

The Premier League side, who finished sixth in the English top-flight standings last term, but qualified for the UEFA Champions League after defeating Ajax 2-0 in the 2017 UEFA Europa League final, have been linked with luring the Chelsea midfielder to Old Trafford this summer.

The 28-year-old, who has 32 international caps for his country, scored two goals and provided nine assists in 40 appearances in all competitions for the Premier League champions last season.

Matic scored against Tottenham in the semi-finals of the FA Cup last term.

Matic, who returned to Stamford Bridge back in January 2014 from Benfica in a deal worth £21m, has won two league titles, the FA Cup and the League Cup during his two spells with The Blues.

However, the report suggests the likely arrival of Tiemoue Bakayoko (£35m) at Chelsea from AS Monaco will open the door for The Red Devils to seal a deal for the Serbian, with United boss Jose Mourinho keen on a reunion with the defensive midfielder.
