Chris Sutton believes Arsene Wenger has disrupted Arsenal’s 2016-17 season by not clarifying his future at the Premier League club, as well as being “disrespectful” to the fans.

The former Chelsea striker, 44, who spoke exclusively to Shoot! from Wembley Stadium ahead of Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup final between The Blues and The Gunners, admits the latter club have been thoroughly disappointing this campaign, and the manager’s reluctance to confirm whether he will be staying at the Emirates Stadium, or not, beyond this summer was a factor.

“Chelsea are miles ahead of Arsenal, I think Arsenal have been disappointing,” BT Sport football expert Sutton said ahead of Saturday’s clash.

“There is a lot of things I can’t fathom out about Arsenal, why Wenger hasn’t made the decision over whether he is going to stay, why not tell everybody two months ago?

“I think it is disrespectful to the fans. I think Wenger was on record saying that the last few months has affected their season.

Gunners boss Wenger.

“He has been a terrific servant for Arsenal, you can’t get away from that, but it has been disruptive this season.”

Sutton continued, “He has to stay now, because in terms of recruitment, the fact that most clubs would have done their work by now, if he leaves now, it is going to be extremely disruptive.

“If he leaves, he has really left them in the lurch, because they would have to get a new guy in to recruit. I do find it all odd.

“The longer it has gone on, I think everybody thinks he is staying, but it has been a circus.”
