Premier League duo Everton and Tottenham are battling to land Hull City centre-back Harry Maguire this summer, according to The Sunday Mirror.

The 24-year-old was a shining light in an ultimately disappointing season at the KCOM Stadium, which saw the Tigers relegated back to the Championship after just one campaign in the top-flight.

The defender appeared in 29 of their 38 Premier League games, and earned many rave reviews for his impressive displays at the heart of the Hull defence, even if they did concede a league-high 80 goals this term.

And those performances have attracted interest from the upper echelons of the Premier League, with Ronald Koeman’s Everton and Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham reportedly eyeing up a summer move for the Englishman.

Toffees boss Koeman will be looking at how he can bridge the gap to the top six sides in the division, and given that they conceded more than all but one of the teams above them in the table, it’s clear that defensive reinforcements are needed ahead of next term.

And although Pochettino’s Spurs finished with the best defensive record of any side in the top tier this season, scouts have been sent from the North London outfit to monitor Maguire’s progress, especially with the futures of Eric Dier and Kevin Wimmer far from certain going into the summer.

Whether or not either side are able to get a deal done for Maguire in the upcoming window remains to be seen, but what does seem clear is that the 24-year-old’s future is away from the KCOM Stadium.
