Everton are reportedly ready to launch a £14 million bid for Sunderland defender Lamine Kone as they search for a replacement for John Stones, according to the Sun.

The England international is understood to be closing in on a £50 million move to Manchester City, and Toffees manager Ronald Koeman has wasted no time in his search for a replacement for the 22-year-old, as he looks to add to a squad that has only been boosted by the arrival of goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg so far this summer.

Kone joined the Black Cats in January as former boss Sam Allardyce swooped to bring in the Ivorian from Lorient, and the centre-back went on to impress, helping the Mackems escape relegation, and sending arch-rivals Newcastle United down as a result.

He made 15 appearances in the Premier League for Sunderland, scoring twice – both in a 3-0 win against Everton at the Stadium of Light that ensured they would be playing in the top-flight again this term.

£14m HAHAHA! Double it at least and we might be able to talk!

  2. Peter McDowell says:

Big big mistake if Moyes sells this icon at Sunderland. Will smell like he does not care about Sunderland and is doing it to help out Everton! Sunderland are looking for another centre half so why sell the best centre half in premiership? Got to be just paper talk!

  3. John Pearson says:

Sunderland don’t want to let Kone go formed great partnership last season with Kaboul ,already short of cover in that department so will have to buy not one but two centre backs

  4. Roker Poker says:

Kone scored twice against Everton, destroyed Yaya Toure and looked twice the player that John Stones will ever be. £14million fee for Kone is a joke…..if Everton get £50million for Stones, Kone will cost them at least £30million

    • Robert Dickson says:

Kone is a key player for Sunderland. So come on Moyes tell Everton to look else where.

  5. If sunderland are to make progress under Moyes they should not even consider any offer for Kone.

  6. Trevor Henderson says:

some times money cant buy everything,This is that point in question, GOODBYE!!

  7. Bill Pendrich says:

If Sunderland sell LamineKone it will show we have no ambition to better ourselves, surely our owner Ellis Short should realise by now you must keep your best players,I’m a season ticket holder and looking forward to an improving club not one who will sell there best players.please don’t sell Kone.Bi

Roker Poker, gotta disagree with your logic. He IS better than Stones hence only a 50M + offer should tempt us and I still wouldn’t take it. Give him a pay rise and tie him up for another 5 years.
