Ex-Tottenham Hotspur defender Sol Campbell has urged his former club to try and sign England international striker Daniel Sturridge this summer.

The 42-year-old, who also enjoyed two playing spells at North London rivals Arsenal, as well as earning 73 international caps for England, says Spurs need to start splashing the cash on “certain” players to help take them to the next level after finishing runners-up to Premier League champions Chelsea this season.

Sturridge, 27, who has 25 international caps for the Three Lions, has scored just seven goals in all competitions for The Reds this season after falling out of favour under manager Jurgen Klopp.

“Daniel Sturridge needs a fresh start,” Campbell told Squawka.

Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge.

“I think he could definitely complement Harry Kane as a pair, both of them are livewires and would scare defences! Or if Kane is injured, he can lead the line.

“Sturridge will want to show people that he’s not finished in the Premier League.”

Sturridge has scored 64 goals in 139 games for Liverpool since arriving at Anfield back in January 2013 from Chelsea.
