Former Man United striker, Federico Macheda could be set for a return to Premier League football, as he looks to secure a contract at Watford, according to reports from the Mirror.

The former Red Devil, who exploded onto the scene with a last minute winner against Aston Villa after coming off the bench with Sir Alex Ferguson’s side 2-1.

Having been released by championship side Cardiff last month, the 25-year-old is currently without a club and has been on trial with The Hornets, scoring a penalty in an U23 game against Hull on Tuesday.

Watford boss, Walter Mazzarri, currently has Tory Deeney and Odion Ighalo as options up top, however, the latter has been struggling so far this season, and the former Inter Milan manager may feel that his compatriot could offer some competition for the pair.

The Italian scored five goals in 3 appearances during his time in Manchester and bagged eight in 33 whilst at Cardiff, and could be a help to Mazzarri’s side this season.
