Former Newcastle United and Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew will not be the next Sunderland boss after ruling out managing the Black Cats, reports Sky Sports.

The 55-year-old was sacked as Palace boss back in December despite winning 35 of his 87 games in charge of the Eagles, and leading the side to the FA Cup final in 2016, where they lost to Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United.

Pardew has since then been out of work but linked with a wide variety of jobs, notably the managerial vacancies at Norwich City, Middlesbrough, Leeds, and Hull, yet one role he certainly won’t be taking up is the vacant post at Sunderland.

David Moyes resigned as Black Cats boss last week after failing to keep them in the Premier League, winning just six of their 38 league games to finish bottom of the pile and 16 points adrift of safety.

However, it won’t be Pardew who will be taking charge of the team in the Championship next season, with the 55-year-old citing his four-year stint in charge of their bitter rivals Newcastle, where he led the side to fifth place in the Premier League in 2012, as the main reason for his decision.

He said: ‘Being the opposite of Newcastle, I don’t think that’s the club for me.

These comments won’t come as much of a surprise to anyone in the North East, as only one manager has ever crossed the divide to manage both clubs during their career, that being Sam Allardyce at Newcastle in 2007, and then Sunderland in 2015.

Nonetheless, Pardew’s comments rules another man out of the running for the Black Cats post, and it very much remains to be seen who is taking charge of the team in the Championship next season.
