Jackson Martinez broke the Asian transfer record after sealing a £31m switch from Atletico Madrid to Guangzhou Evergrande.

The Colombia international signed a four-year deal with the Chinese Super League outfit following an underwhelming spell with the La Liga giants this campaign.

Jackson Martinez failed to impress at Atletico Madrid following his summer switch from FC Porto back in July.

The 29-year-old, who has 36 international caps for his country, scored just three goals in 22 appearances for Diego Simeone’s side this season following his £24.8m move from FC Porto only last summer.

Martinez is due to join his new club during winter training in Dubai on February 9.

Brazil and former Chelsea midfielder Ramires previously broke the Asian transfer record just last week after he decided to leave Stamford Bridge to seal a £25m deal with Jiangsu Suning.

Martinez’s new manager at Guangzhou is former World Cup winning coach Luiz Felipe Scolari (Brazil 2002), whilst the Colombian will also have familiarly known teammates in the form of ex-Tottenham midfielder Paulinho and former Manchester City forward Robinho.

The transfer window is open in China until February 26.
