League One Round-Up: Burton move four points clear, Barnsley make it seven straight wins

Burton comfortably put aside Bradford as they moved four points clear at the top of League One.

Walsall lost ground on leaders Burton with a 3-0 loss at home to Millwall, who have now won four of their last five matches. Wigan moved up to third and are now unbeaten in their last ten games with a 2-0 victory over Sheffield United. Will Grigg converted from the penalty spot early on in the second-half before Everton loanee Conor McAlney added a second on his debut.

Sam Winnall netted his 14th league goal of the season in Barnsley’s 3-0 win over Bury on Sunday.

Barnsley began life without former manager Lee Johnson with a resounding 3-0 win over Bury in Tommy Wright’s first game in charge as caretaker boss. The Tykes have now won their last seven league games and went ahead early on thanks to Marley Watkins’ solo goal. Sam Winnall then claimed his 17th strike of the campaign after some great work by Conor Hourihane before Adam Hammill rounded off the scoring with a simple finish.

Peterborough held on to beat Chesterfield 1-0 as Tom Nichols scored on his debut as Posh ended the game with only nine men. Michael Smith and Ricardo Santos were dismissed after receiving second yellow cards.

Crewe are now just four points from safety as they extended their unbeaten run to four matches as they beat Rochdale 2-0. Marcus Haber gave the hosts the lead as he prodded home from a corner before Brad Inman doubled their advantage with a great solo run before finding the back of the net.

Southend shrugged off bottom side Colchester 3-0 with all three goals coming in the last ten minutes in the Essex derby. Alex Gilbey was show a straight red card for the visitors with just over half-an-hour played and the hosts made it count. Anthony Wordsworth finally broke the deadlock with a 20-yard effort, then Adam Barrett’s header doubled their lead before Sam McQueen wrapped up the three points.

Port Vale scored a late equaliser as they drew 1-1 with Coventry. Jacob Murphy had put the Sky Blues ahead just before half-time. Yet, Sam Kelly’s wonderful long-range shot with six minutes left levelled the score.

Meanwhile, Fleetwood played out a 0-0 draw with fellow strugglers Shrewsbury and Gillingham’s game with Swindon also finished goalless.
