Oxford United went to the top of the League Two table with a hard-fought 1-0 win away at Hartlepool United.

Substitute Danny Hylton grabbed a late winner for the U’s, after a brilliant counter attack, with Alex MacDonald providing a superb cross.

The previous leaders Plymouth denied Dagenham what would have been a crucial win when Ryan Brunt’s sensational last minute strike snatched the Pilgrims a 1-1 draw, after Joss Labadie had put the hosts 1-0 up.

Northampton rounded off their eventful week with a 2-0 win at home to Yeovil. The victory is the first under the new ownership of Kelvin Thomas and extended their unbeaten run to eight matches, with Lawson D’Ath and Marc Richards getting the goals.

Accrington Stanley destroyed York 5-1 away as four different players got their names on the scoresheet, condemning the home side to an eighth straight defeat. Matty Pearson, Josh Windass, Shay McCartan and a brace from Billy Kee rounded off the scoring.

John Sheridan has made a brilliant start at Newport County.

Newport won their first home game for eight months, as they beat Luton 3-0 thanks to hat-trick from Oliver McBurnie. The 19-year-old, who joined John Sheridan’s team on loan from Swansea on Thursday, made an incredible impact on his debut. County, who looked doomed before Sheridan took over, are now seven points clear of the relegation zone.

Leyton Orient and AFC Wimbledon drew 1-1 in a London derby, as Adebayo Akinfenwa headed home a late equaliser, after Jay Simpson had put the O’s in the lead with his 15th League Two goal of the season.

Cambridge came from a goal down to beat Notts County 3-1 at home to win their second game in a row. Adam Campbell had given the Magpies the lead, but second half efforts from Barry Corr, Ben Williamson and Luke Berry meant the home side climbed to 14th.

Chris Whelpdale’s hat-trick helped Stevenage to a 4-3 home win over Morecambe, despite a late comeback by the away side.

Dean Wells broke the deadlock, for the home side, before Kevin Ellison equalised, but Whelpdale’s treble put Teddy Sheringham’s team 4-1 up. A late strike from Ellison and a penalty from Paul Mullin completed the scores.

Portsmouth came from two goals down to draw 2-2 at Wycombe.

Michael Harriman put the hosts in the lead, before Garry Thompson doubled the score, with his 100th  career league goal. But strikes from Caolan Lavery and Adam Webster either side of the break saw Pompey rescue their 10th draw of the season.

Mansfield survived a late scare from Barnet to seal a 3-1 win to move into the play-off places, as both sides finished the game with 10-men.

Reggie Lambe put the Stags in the lead, before Danny Green made it 2-0. John Akinde had scored a late penalty for the Bees, but an own goal from Michael Nelson secured the three points for the visitors.

Elsewhere, Carlisle won for the second game in a row with a comfortable 3-1 victory over Crawley thanks to Charlie Wyke’s barce, whilst Exeter scored a late equaliser to secure a 1-1 draw against Bristol Rovers in a West Country derby at St James’ Park.
