Leeds United, Bristol City and Ipswich lead the race to sign Sunderland defender Adam Matthews on loan, according to the Bristol Post.

The Championship trio are all keen to strengthen at right-back and are targeting the 24-year-old, who is out of favour at the Stadium of Light despite only moving to the Black Cats from Celtic last summer.

However, any move could depend on whether Sam Allardyce is able to sign another right0back before the window slam shut on Monday night.

Matthews has made just two appearances in all competitions for Sunderland this term, and has been kept out of the team by DeAndre Yedlin and Billy Jones.
