Premier League duo Leicester City and West Brom are targeting a summer move for Middlesbrough defender Ben Gibson, according to The Daily Mirror.

The 24-year-old was a rare bright spark in a hugely disappointing top-flight campaign for the North East giants this season, starting all 38 of their Premier League matches in which time he earned rave reviews despite Boro finishing second-bottom in the division.

Gibson, who earned a call-up to the England senior squad in March but didn’t get on the pitch, has also been linked with a move to top-flight giants Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham during the campaign, but it is thought that Leicester and West Brom are leading the pursuit.

Craig Shakespeare’s Foxes conceded 63 goals in their Premier League title defence this term, 27 more than the previous season, and thus could really do with defensive reinforcements to go the next level in 2017/18.

And although Tony Pulis’ Baggies conceded 12 goals fewer than their fellow Midlands outfit, their stuttering end to the season, which saw them win none of their last nine matches, looks set to persuade the West Brom boss to delve into the transfer window to bolster his backline.

It has been reported that both sides have scouted Gibson throughout the season, and with Steve Agnew’s Boro set for Championship football next term, they are likely to lose their prized assets, one of which is certainly Gibson, but where he ends up very much remains to be seen.
