Liverpool and Manchester City are both reportedly interested in landing England international forward Andros Townsend this summer, according to the Telegraph.

The Premier League giants, who finished eighth and fourth in the English top-flight standings last term respectively, have joined the likes of Crystal Palace, Southampton and West Ham United in registering an interest in the Newcastle United winger.

The 24-year-old, who has 11 international caps for his country but was not included in England’s 23-man EURO 2016 squad this summer, scored four goals and provided two assists in 13 league games for the recently relegated Magpies last season.

Townsend, who only arrived at St James’ Park from Tottenham back in January following his £12m switch, reportedly has a £10.5m release clause in his current Newcastle deal.

The report suggests that Liverpool and City could enter the race to sign the forward if the Reds and Citizens fail to lure the likes of top targets Southampton’s Sadio Mane and Schalke’s Leroy Sane to the Premier League this summer.
