Liverpool are reportedly closing in on the £25million double signing of Bayern Munich midfielder Mario Gotze and Mainz goalkeeper Loris Karius, according to the Sun.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp made the former one of his main targets this summer, and hopes to conclude the deal for the World Cup winner later this week, before he links up with Germany for the start of the European Championships in France on June 10.

The German manager worked with Gotze during the duo’s time with Borussia Dortmund, although he will have to convince him to move to Anfield with the absence of European football next term, after the club finished eighth in the Premier League, and were beaten 3-1 by Sevilla in the Europa League final.

Meanwhile, terms are understood to have been agreed on a £5million move for Karius, as Klopp looks to provide further competition to his current number one, Simon Mignolet.
