Liverpool have completed the £25m signing of Netherlands international Georginio Wijnaldum.

The Premier League side, who finished eighth in the English top-flight last term, have secured the midfielder’s services on a five-year deal following his move from Championship outfit Newcastle United.

The 25-year-old midfielder, who had a medical with the Reds on Friday, scored 11 goals and provided five assists in 40 appearances in all competitions for the relegated Magpies last season.

Wijnaldum, who only arrived at St James’ Park last summer following his £14.5m transfer from Eredivisie outfit PSV Eindhoven, has won 30 international caps for the Netherlands and featured for his country at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

The Dutch ace becomes Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp’s seventh signing of the summer so far, following Loris Karius (Mainz), Joel Matip (Schalke), Marko Grujic (Red Star Belgrade), Sadio Mane (Southampton), Ragnar Klavan (FC Augsburg) and Alex Manninger (Free agent) into Anfield.

He told the club’s official website, “I’m really excited because Liverpool is a big club with a great history and it’s always a dream to play for as big a club as Liverpool.”
