Inter Milan are reportedly leading the chase to land Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva, according to the Express.

The Premier League side, who currently sit third in the English top-flight standings following last Sunday’s 1-1 draw against rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford, have been linked with offloading the Brazil international.

The 30-year-old, who has 24 international caps for his country, has scored one goal in 16 appearances in all competitions for The Reds so far this season.

Lucas, who was Jurgen Klopp’s side’s FA Cup hero after netting the winner (1-0) at League Two outfit Plymouth Argyle in their midweek third round replay, is understood to be considering his future at Anfield having started just three times in the Premier League under the German manager this term.

Amid the speculation, the Brazilian defensive midfielder said, “I had a few options to go and I have to think about my long-term future.

“I know I don’t have many years left here. I have to start to think about it.

“Liverpool is a place I love, there is no doubt about that. But this is more about thinking about my future as well – game time, things like I this. I have to deal with it.

“But I cannot tell you in two months’ time, four months’ time or one year’s time. I have to think about my future.”
