Brentford have reportedly emerged as the frontrunners to sign Manchester City youngster George Evans on loan.

The Championship club, who defeated Milton Keynes Dons 2-0 at the weekend, are leading the chase among fellow second-tier rivals Burnley, MK Dons, Sheffield Wednesday and Wolverhampton Wanderers in the chase for the defensive midfielder ahead of the New Year.

The 20-year-old, who has represented England at Under-19 level, has had his loan deal at League One high-fliers Walsall extended until January 9 after a string of impressive performances this season.

Evans, who made his first-team debut for the Citizens against Sunderland in the League Cup back in September, has scored twice and assisted three goals in just five league appearances for the Saddlers so far.
