Manchester United have joined the race to sign Tottenham full-back Kyle Walker, with Luke Shaw potentially part of a deal to bring the Spurs man to Old Trafford, according to The Daily Express.

26-year-old Walker has been left out of Mauricio Pochettino’s team in recent times amid intense speculation about his future, which has seen Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City linked with a move for the England star this summer.

The right-back has started 31 of Tottenham’s 38 Premier League games this season but only one of their last four matches, and it has led to further speculation about his long-term future at the North London outfit.

And recent reports indicate that Jose Mourinho’s United have joined the race for the 26-year-old, and could use left-back Shaw to edge ahead of their Manchester rivals.

England star Shaw has had a tough time at Old Trafford since moving there in 2014, and has been repeatedly criticised by manager Mourinho to suggest that his United career is coming to an end.

And with Spurs boss Pochettino the man who gave Shaw his big breakthrough at Southampton, and indeed reportedly tried to land him last summer, Mourinho clearly sees Shaw’s departure as an opportunity to bring Walker to United as he looks to bolster his own defensive options ahead of next term.

It remains to be seen whether United will press ahead for this swap deal, but what does seem clear is that Walker’s future is away from North London.
