Manchester United target Antoine Griezmann has played down ‘unfounded’ speculation that he has agreed to leave Atletico Madrid, according to his own Twitter handle (via Sky Sports).

The 26-year-old has been one of the most prolific forwards in European football over the past few years, and this season has been no different, with the France international bagging 26 goals in just 53 games for Atletico Madrid.

This adds to the 25 he netted in his first season at the club in 2015 and then a further 32 last season, and with a stunning Euro 2016 campaign sandwiched in between, in which time he scored six times for France on their way to the final, speculation has been building about his future in the Spanish capital.

Just last week, Griezmann stated that a move to United was a ‘six out of ten’ chance, before just a few days later admitting that he is ready to leave Atletico this summer, sending rumours of an imminent move to Old Trafford into overdrive.

However, the forward has taken to his Twitter to play down speculation that he has already agreed to leave Atletico this summer.

He said (via Sky Sports): ‘All the rumours are unfounded.

‘I’m still Colchonero. My direction will be established after discussion with my sporting advisor.’

These comments may come as a slight blow to Jose Mourinho’s United, who have been heavily linked with a move for Griezmann in the last few months, and now have Champions League football to offer him after beating Ajax 2-0 in the final of the Europa League last week.

And although the 26-year-old forward has played down recent speculation, he didn’t state that he would definitely be staying at Atletico, so you sense that there is still more to follow in the developing Griezmann to United transfer saga.
