Manchester United are reportedly considering making a surprise summer swoop for France international star Dimitri Payet, according to France Football (via topmercato).

The Premier League side, who visit AFC Bournemouth on the opening weekend of the forthcoming 2016/17 English top-flight campaign on Sunday, August 14, have been linked with trying to lure the West Ham United midfielder to Old Trafford.

The 29-year-old, who has 26 international caps for his country and starred for France as Didier Deschamps’ side reached the final of the 2016 European Championships in his homeland earlier this month, scored an impressive 12 goals and provided 15 assists in 38 appearances in all competitions for the Hammers last season.

Payet, who joined the London outfit only back in late-June 2015 following his £10.7m switch from Ligue 1 side Marseille, is also said to be attracting interest from Serie A club Inter Milan ahead of the new domestic campaign.

However the report suggests that any deal could now involve a hefty transfer fee of around €60m.

This is despite Jose Mourinho’s Red Devils destined to complete the £100m re-signing of fellow France international Paul Pogba from Juventus.
