Manchester United have reportedly intensified their interest in signing France international defender Raphael Varane this summer, according to Le 10 Sport (via Talksport).

The 13-time Premier League champions, who drew 1-1 against newly crowned winners Leicester City at Old Trafford on Sunday, are thought to have stepped up their pursuit of the Real Madrid centre-half ahead of the forthcoming summer transfer window.

The 23-year-old, who has 28 international caps for his country and is set to star for France at Euro 2016 in his homeland later this year, has made 32 appearances in all competitions for the La Liga giants so far this season.

Varane, who was benched for Madrid’s Champions League semi-final second-leg against Manchester City on Wednesday night at the Bernabeu, could now reportedly consider leaving Zinedine Zidane’s men once the current 2015/16 campaign has concluded.

However the report suggests that Man Utd would face stiff competition for the highly-rated Frenchman’s signature, with the likes of FC Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain also rumoured to be interested.
