Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand believes the current crop of Manchester City players aren’t good enough to achieve Pep Guardiola’s goals at the club, suggesting the manager needs to bring in new players to do so.

Following the Citizens’ 4-0 defeat to the hands of FC Barcelona in the Champions League on Wednesday night, the ex-England international said Guardiola will sign new personnel in a bid to succeed in the Premier League and on the European stage.

The 37-year-old BT Sport pundit said, “I think he would have worked out, especially in this game, and especially over the last couple of weeks as well, the personnel that he has got there aren’t quite up to what he wants to be able to execute his ideas.

“I don’t think he [Guardiola] should change the way he plays, but I think he is going to change personnel.

“He needs to if he actually wants to actually get the results that he is used to getting in league and European football.”
