Manchester United have reportedly joined Chelsea in the race to sign Everton’s John Stones.

After Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal missed out on Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos this summer, the Dutchman is eyeing a move for the England centre-half before the close of the transfer window.

Stones, who arrived at Goodison Park from Barnsley back in 2013, scored once in 28 appearances in all competitions last season for the Toffees.

It is understood that United are willing to offer Northern Ireland international Jonny Evans as part of a player-plus-cash offer for the 21-year-old star.

Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea have already had bids of £20m and £26m rejected by Roberto Martinez’s side so far this summer.
