Manchester United are reportedly keen on trying to thrash out a summer deal to sign Argentina international Ezequiel Garay, according to Fichajes (via the Daily Star).

The Premier League side, who finished fifth in the English top-flight standings last term and are poised to appoint ex-Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho as their new manager this week after sacking Louis van Gaal, want to lure the Zenit St Petersburg centre-half to Old Trafford this summer.

The 29-year-old, who has 32 international caps for his country, scored two goals in 28 appearances in all competitions for the Russian Premier Liga outfit this season.

Garay, who left Portuguese side Benfica for Zenit back in 2014 for just £4.6m, is wanted by the Red Devils to strengthen their defensive ranks after missing out on UEFA Champions League football later this year.

The report suggests that United may have to spend over £19.4m in a bid to land his services.
