Manchester United have reportedly joined arch-rivals Manchester City in the hunt to sign Italy international star Leonardo Bonucci this summer, according to the Mirror.

The Premier League side, who visit AFC Bournemouth in their opening 2016/17 English top-flight fixture on August 14, have been recently linked with trying to lure the Juventus centre-half to Old Trafford.

The 29-year-old, who has 62 international caps for his country and starred for Italy as Antonio Conte’s former side reached the quarter-finals of this summer’s European Championships in France, scored three goals and provided two assists in 49 appearances in all competitions for the Serie A champions last season.

Bonucci; who began his senior career at Italian rivals Inter Milan, is also a transfer target for Pep Guardiola’s City, with the Citizens understood to be ready to splash out as much as £50m for his services.

However the report suggests Jose Mourinho’s Red Devils are also interested in capturing the defender, despite United already signing fellow centre-half Eric Bailly from La Liga outfit Villarreal for £30m earlier in the transfer window.
