Hull City have completed the signing of former England Under-19 international James Weir.

The Premier League side, who currently sit fifth in the English top-flight standings after picking up six points from a possible nine from their opening three league games, have signed the midfielder on a three-year deal from Manchester United for an undisclosed fee.

The 21-year-old, who is a former England Under-19 international after making his debut against Finland back in November 2012, captained United’s Under-23 squad against Leicester City, Southampton and Chelsea this season in the Premier League 2.

However Weir, who was a trainee at Old Trafford, leaves the Red Devils having made just one first-team appearance for the club – coming on as late substitute in their 3-2 victory over Arsenal back in February.

Hull’s caretaker boss; Mike Phelan, who is in temporary charge at the KCOM Stadium following the departure of Steve Bruce, was Sir Alex Ferguson’s assistant manager for five years and has returned to his former club to lure Weir to the Tigers.
