Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United welcome defending champions Leicester City to Old Trafford for Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off in the Premier League, looking to rediscover their top-flight form.

After losing the Manchester derby to rivals Manchester City on home soil a week before, seventh-placed United suffered another setback last Sunday against Watford at Vicarage Road.

Etienne Capoue opened the scoring for the Hornets, drilling in from Daryl Janmaat’s cut-back after 34 minutes, only for Marcus Rashford to level for the Red Devils just past the hour.

Juan Zuniga’s late strike, followed up by Troy Deeney’s converted penalty, ensured a 3-1 triumph for Walter Mazzarri’s side, a result that piled more misery onto Mourinho.

Despite the recent struggles, the men from The Theatre of Dreams put their league issues to one side by dispatching Northampton Town in the EFL Cup at Sixfields on Wednesday night.

Michael Carrick’s first-half curler was added to by efforts from Ander Herrera and Rashford to seal a 3-1 win, which set up a fourth-round home tie with their cross-city neighbours.

The visiting Leicester, who have had a steady opening to their title defence, will view Saturday’s fixture as an opportunity to further frustrate the Red Devils. Claudio Ranieri’s Foxes head to the North-West after contrasting performances in both league and cup recently.

A brace from Islam Slimani was followed up by Ben Mee’s own goal, as Leicester comfortably dispatched Burnley at the King Power Stadium on Saturday to move up to 11th in the standings.

Leicester then bowed out of the EFL Cup on Tuesday at the hands of Chelsea, in an encounter which they went two-nil up, through Shinji Okazaki’s double.

However, goals from Gary Cahill, Cesar Azpilicueta, along with Cesc Fabregas’ extra-time brace, knocked the East-Midlanders out.

Manchester United and Leicester City last met in the FA Community Shield at Wembley back in early August, when Jesse Lingard and Zlatan Ibrahimovic netted either side of Jamie Vardy to claim the first piece of silverware of the season.

Left-back Luke Shaw is doubtful for United due to a minor groin strain that forced him out of the midweek cup win at Northampton. Fellow defender Phil Jones is still sidelined with a thigh injury.

Striker Anthony Martial, along with Shaw, will be assessed before kick-off. The Frenchman sustained a head injury at Watford last weekend. Henrikh Mkhitaryan is doubtful with a thigh problem.

David De Gea, Paul Pogba, Eric Bailly and Antonio Valencia will return for the Leicester fixture. The quartet were rested against the Cobblers, while Ibrahimovic, Rashford, Marouane Fellaini and Juan Mata are also in contention to start, having been substitutes on Wednesday.

As for Leicester, Riyad Mahrez and Vardy are set to spearhead the attack along with Slimani. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel is doubtful with a muscle strain. The 29-year-old has missed the last two games with concussion.
