Middlesbrough have agreed a deal to sign former Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo.

The newly promoted Premier League side, who finished second in the Championship last term, have brought in the Spain international forward from La Liga outfit Valencia on a season-long loan deal ahead of the forthcoming 2016/17 campaign.

The 30-year-old; who has 21 international caps for his country, but last featured for Spain back in November 2013, scored 12 goals and provided three assists in 40 appearances in all competitions for Valencia last season.

Negredo, who was a member of Spain’s successful squad at EURO 2012, will officially become a Boro player once all the paperwork has been completed.

The former Real Madrid and Sevilla star has already experienced Premier League football having featured for Manchester City between 2013 and 2015, netting 23 goals in 49 games for the Citizens in all competitions, after costing the club around £16.4m back in July 2013.

The Spaniard has already linked up with new manager Aitor Karanka’s squad in Marbella.
