Garry Monk is close to agreeing a new long term contract to remain at Leeds United.

According to a report in the Yorkshire Evening Post the club are looking into a new long term deal for the 37-year-old.

Monk is on a 12 month rolling contract but after going through six managers in a two year period the club seem to have found the winning formula.

With Leeds sitting in third place there is a very real prospect of a return to the top flight of English football after a 13 year exile.

Monk was sacked halfway through last season by Swansea but has rebuilt his reputation in spectacular fashion at Elland Road.

That progress has been noted elsewhere but the 37-year-old has described managing Leeds as being a long term project and is certainly a bigger club than Swansea who could ironically be going down to The Championship while Leeds move in the opposite direction.
