According to reports from the Manchester Evening News, Man United boss Jose Mourinho could wait until next Wednesday’s Deadline Day to finalise his final target, Southampton’s Jose Fonte.

As per the MEN‘s report, the former Chelsea boss is willing to wait in order to land a deal for his fellow compatriot, as he would have to clear out some of the Old Trafford deadwood before intensifying his interest in the defender.

The South Coast side reportedly remain adamant that the 32-year-old will not be going anywhere having already lost key talent, Saido Mane, Victor Wanayama and Graziano Pelle this summer.

The former Crystal Palace man joined the then League One Saints in 2010, and has enjoyed a spectacular rise with the club, earning the armband in the wake of Adam Lallana’s departure and then going on to experience immense international success, playing a key role in Portugal’s victorious Euro 2016 campaign this summer.

The Sporting Lisbon academy graduate would be the fifth first team summer signing for the Red Devils this summer, following Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Paul Pogba to the club.
