Man United manager Jose Mourinho is targeting German defender Antonio Rudiger as he looks to overhaul the Red Devils’ back line, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

The former Chelsea boss is also reportedly considering a mass clear-out of his current defensive ranks, with no less then four of the first team squad facing the chop.

Out-of-favour defensive duo Matteo Darmian and Marcos Rojo could be out the door at Old Trafford as soon as January, whilst both Chris Smalling and Dutchman, Daley Blind – who were both singled out for glaring mistakes in the 4-0 defeat to Chelsea – could be on their way as well.

Roma’s Rudiger has also been linked with a move to Mourinho’s former side Chelsea as both managers look to solidify at the back.

The 23-year-old, who is rated at £35 million, has made just the one appearances for the Serie A side so far this season, having just returned from a cruciate ligament injury.
