Newcastle edging closer to sealing loan deal for Switzerland Under-21 international

Newcastle United are reportedly closing in on their first January signing – Switzerland Under-21 international Albian Ajeti.

The Premier League side; who are currently two points adrift of safety in the bottom three following their 1-0 weekend defeat to Arsenal, are expected to sign the FC Basel striker on loan this month, with a view to a permanent transfer in the summer.

The 18-year-old, who is also eligible to represent Albania, has scored five goals in 17 appearances in all competitions for the Swiss outfit this season.

Ajeti, who is out of contract at the end of this campaign, is due to team up with the Magpies’ development squad.
