Newcastle United picked up eight points from their six matches in April to boost their chances of avoiding the drop from the Premier League at the end of the season, and one of their key men in helping them to achieve that was January signing, Andros Townsend.

The winger assisted Aleksandar Mitrovic for his first goal in the 3-2 defeat to fellow strugglers Norwich City at the start of the month, before scoring a wonderful consolation goal from outside the area in the 3-1 loss to Southampton.

However, the tide changed for the Toon as they beat Swansea 3-0 at St James’ Park, with the former Tottenham man playing a key role in the win.

Firstly, the wide man’s cross was headed in by Mitrovic to give Rafa Benitez’s men the lead, before a repeat of that move saw the Serbian’s header saved, only for Moussa Sissoko to fire home, before Townsend got on the scoresheet himself.

Townsend may have saved the best until last though, as his magnificent free-kick helped the Magpies to a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace. His performances during the month also saw him reach the final shortlist for the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month award in the Premier League.
