Forward Ayoze Perez cost Newcastle United just £1.5m back in June 2014 from Tenerife.

After costing an initial £1.5m; Ayoze Perez has proved an absolute Premier League bargain and hence become Newcastle United fans’ firm favourite since arriving at St James’ Park back in June 2014.

Despite turning down the likes of European giants FC Barcelona, Real Madrid and FC Porto for the Magpies, no-one still quite expected the young Spaniard to win the hearts of Newcastle supporters with his dazzling displays and huge potential in a black and white shirt.

The 22-year-old, who joined the Premier League outfit from Tenerife, has scored five and assisted two goals in 23 league games for Steve McClaren’s relegation threatened side this season.

The former Spain Under-21 international, who recently signed a new deal at the club to keep him at Newcastle until the summer of 2021, has often been the bright spark in what has been a thoroughly disappointing campaign so far for the Magpies.

Currently just one point above the bottom three after six league victories all term; Perez’s strikes in their impressive 2-2 draw with defending league champions Chelsea, his effort in the 6-2 mauling of lowly rivals Norwich City, the opener against West Ham in a 2-1 win last month, but more importantly the two jubilant winners against AFC Bournemouth and Tottenham, has softened his teammates’ relegation reality as Newcastle bid to secure their status as a Premier League club for a seventh successive season.
