The England youth international signed for Arsenal in 2001, aged just seven. Since then the powerful midfielder has been creating quite a name for himself.

Aneke has played for the reserves and reckons this will be a big year for him in which he intends to “produce good things on the field and show people how good I am.”

Aneke, who made his debut in the League Cup this season, has been likened to Yaya Toure and Patrick Vieira by Gunners boss Arsene Wenger.

The midfielder, who can play in either defensive or attacking positions, was approached by Barcelona a couple of years ago but he, and reserve team mate Benik Afobe, both rejected the opportunity thinking that their progression would be better served at Arsenal.

Arsenal fans will be hoping that Aneke will develop into the mould of former captain Vieira - a complete, box-to-box midfielder, something that the Gunners have missed since the Frenchmen departed for Juventus in summer 2005.
