Anfield’s new defender

Liverpool have signed Uruguay defender Sebastian Coates after he was granted a work permit.

The 20-year-old central defender moves to Anfield from Nactional for £7m.

Coates, likely to be Jamie Carragher's eventual successor, said: "I am very happy to sign for a big club and to be able to be a team-mate of a friend like Luis Suarez."
