Boss backed
Friday, 12/03/2010
Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn has given his firm backing to under-fire manager Steve Bruce.
As Texas-based owner Ellis Short visited the Wearsiders to watch the game against Bolton, speak to Bruce and the players, Quinn categorically came out and said that Bruce is the man to lead the Black Cats to glory.
Bruce, the former Wigan boss, had been under pressure from fans after his side plummet down the table as they desperately looked for a victory. Their 4-0 home win over Bolton this week was their first in 14 games, and their first of 2010.
Quinn, a former Sunderland and Manchester City crowd favourite, said that all of Bruce's summer transfers had proved themselves since arriving at the Stadium of Light. He added that Bruce's bulging contacts book meant he brought with him a further valuable asset as the club checked out players around the world.
