Carroll comeback
Monday, 24/01/2011
Newcastle are hopeful of having striker Andy Carroll back for their next game.
The England hitman has been out since picking up a thigh injury on December 28.
There have been various reports that he could be out for two to three months - but the Gateshead-born No.9 has been responding to treatment over the past few days.
Carroll could now make it back for the Magpies' next fixture, away to Fulham on February 2.
The Geordies are also interested in taking Aston Villa's former Manchester City midfielder Stephen Ireland on loan with a view to a permanent transfer. They are also linked with Manchester City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips.
